Rotary drilling rigs are only suitable for drilling soft rock and coal.
Downhole drilling rigs: When drilling holes with a diameter of less than 150 mm, small diameter downhole drilling rigs from 80 mm to 150 mm can be used in addition to rock drills. When drilling a blast hole with a diameter of less than 70 mm in coal or soft rock, an electric drill or wind drill is usually used, and the motor (or pneumatic motor) drives the drill pipe to drill the hole, and the drilled rock (coal) chips are discharged through the spiral groove on the drill pipe.
