1、 Introduction: A certain sewage treatment plant uses a Zhigao screw air compressor to provide compressed air for a continuous sand filter. The unit includes three air compressors, one condenser, and one pressure tank, which are combined with six air control devices in the sand filter system to control the pressure and flow of compressed air. The air compressor adopts a dual-purpose and one backup operation mode. During use, the operation is relatively stable, but the air compressor is prone to high-temperature shutdown problems, which to some extent affects production efficiency. The main reason for this is that the working environment is harsh, and dust in the air can easily enter the air compressor, causing blockages in the heat exchanger and filter element, thereby affecting the normal operation of the heat exchanger and causing the air compressor to automatically shut down due to a high temperature alarm. After expert research and discussion, it has been decided to transform the existing air-cooled system into a water-cooled system to improve the cooling effect of the air compressor.
2、 The basic principle of water cooling system transformation is to use the basic law of heat transfer to absorb the heat emitted during the operation of equipment using cold water. In air compressor equipment, water cooling transformation mainly constructs an internal circulation system with cooling towers, equipment, and heat exchangers. When the circulating water is lost, it needs to be replenished in a timely manner. During the operation of the air compressor, the high-temperature lubricating oil and high-pressure compressed gas inside will enter the heat exchanger and exchange heat with the cooling water inside the shell. After the temperature drops to a certain extent, the lubricating oil will flow back to the main engine to continue to participate in the circulation, while the compressed air will be discharged from the outlet. After the cooling water takes away the heat, it will enter the cooling tower, cool down, and be pressurized by the water pump before entering the system circulation again. During this process, cooling water can continuously enter the heat exchanger, allowing cooling to occur at any time. Compared with air-cooled systems, the cooling effect is significantly enhanced.
The actual operation process of water cooling renovation is as follows: First, set up the water tank, select an appropriate location, excavate a water tank of about 300mm on the ground, determine the size according to the actual situation, compact the bottom of the pit, lay a layer of pebbles, and then use reinforced concrete as a cushion to ensure good sealing effect. The main body of the pool adopts a brick concrete structure, with outer dimensions set at 1780 × 1780 × 1490mm and a wall thickness of 130mm. The overall capacity of the pool is 2m3. Two No. 10 steel bars are added every 500mm from the bottom of the pool, and waterproof coating is evenly applied to the inner side of the wall to improve the waterproof sealing performance; The second is the foundation of the water pump. In order to ensure the stability of the water pump during operation and avoid the negative effects that may be caused by vibration, the water pump base is made of channel steel with a size of 100 × 50mm. The third is the foundation of the heat exchanger, which is made of stainless steel square tube to ensure the stability and reliability of the foundation.
The fourth is the installation of the cooler, which can be installed in an appropriate position on the roof of the air compressor room. This can not only improve the actual effectiveness of water cooling, but also effectively reduce the chance of impurities entering the water cooling system and avoid blockage problems; The fifth is pipeline connection, which requires connecting the water pump, heat exchanger, and water tank together, and connecting the heat exchanger, air compressor oil circuit, and gas pipeline together to build a complete water cooling system. After the renovation, the overall operation effect of the air compressor was good. The oil temperature during operation was checked and it was found that it had dropped from the original 110 ℃ to 80 ℃. The high temperature alarm was no longer triggered, and there was no problem of high temperature shutdown. At the same time, after the air cooling system was replaced by the water cooling system, the operating noise of the air compressor was significantly reduced, and the vibration problem was also solved.
3、 After the system maintenance and water cooling renovation, it is also necessary to regularly maintain the air compressor to ensure its stable and reliable operation. The maintenance of the water cooling system includes daily maintenance and regular maintenance. During daily maintenance, it is necessary to record the operating parameters of the unit every day. After the unit has been running for more than 24 hours, the freezing and cooling water filters need to be cleaned. Combined with the pressure gauge on the control cabinet, it is necessary to ensure that the pressure of the evaporator and condenser of the unit is normal, clarify the changes in the outlet temperature, and promptly handle any abnormalities found. For any shutdown fault, sufficient attention should be paid, and the cause of the fault should be analyzed and dealt with in a timely manner.
Regular maintenance can be conducted once a week, once a month, or once every six months to ensure the normal and stable operation of the equipment. Here, a monthly maintenance frequency is adopted to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the cooling tower, clean the water tray, and replace the circulating water. During normal use, the drain valve should be opened regularly according to the specific situation to ensure smooth pipeline drainage.
4、 In conclusion, during the operation of the Zhigao screw air compressor, there may be issues with delayed heat dissipation leading to high-temperature shutdown. In most cases, this is due to poor heat dissipation performance of the air cooling system. Therefore, if conditions permit, the air compressor can be water-cooled to improve heat dissipation efficiency. Through practical testing, the efficiency of the air compressor after water cooling transformation has been greatly improved, and the stability and reliability of operation have been effectively guaranteed, which can provide some reference for the transformation work of similar equipment.
